MOSES

20210818 203110

Moses is a Buttermilk Buckskin Quarter Horse gelding. He came from a cattle ranch where he was used for checking fence, roping calves, and anything they needed a horse for on the ranch. He has a huge heart and wants to please. Everyone that comes here loves him.

MAVERICK is on loan to SSFR from Marissa Steien Stoner. We are so thankful to have him. He loves everyone and is always looking for a treat and to come out and play. He is quickly becoming a favorite here.

IKE

IKE is a QH gelding that was donated to us by dear friends Brian and Kelly Gillund. He was used as a roping horse for years and then was used as a game horse, competing in barrels and poles. He came to retire at Blazin’ Saddles/Son Shine Farm Refuge and has been a great addition to our lesson and therapy horses and is a favorite of many! We are very thankful for Ike!

Moose

Moose came from a dude ranch.  He lives up to his name and is the tallest horse here.  He is a gentle giant and has been a great addition to our program.

TJ was donated by Sandy Malm. He is another big old boy that loves attention and treats. He has more Whoa than GO, which is what we like here and we are so thankful to Sandy for the blessing he is.

JUDAH

Last summer we realized we needed to purchase another gelding.  We had too many old horses, lame horses and moses and moose were being used so much to cover.  Jess Schneider, who was my summer help for 2024 was diligently searching and kept finding very expensive geldings that were nice but didn’t fit the budget.  Then one Sunday morning she sent a link to an ad for a 15-yr old trail horse, Outlaw, owned by Kimber George.  I called immediately and the rest is history.  This boy is an answer to prayer.  The first time Jess worked with him she said, I think his name is “Judah” which means praise.  His name is Judah because we praise God for him and he sure isn’t an outlaw!   God is good!

Bea was donated by Lori and Randy Rose.  She is the sweetest girl and loves to come out and be brushed, get some love, treats and go for a ride.  She is 26 years old but you would never know it.  She has lots of energy.  She has been such a blessing to us!

KODA

Koda came to us from Roseau.  Her owner, Penny Erickson passed away from Cancer and her husband Jeff was not a horse person.  Penny’s  friend Nora Foss had promised Penny that she would take care of her horses.  Nora has done what she promised.  She has cared for Penny’s 2 horses well, but one died from Colic and Koda was left alone with the cows.  That is when a friend of ours, Teri Link  called my daughter Amanda and the rest is history!  We prayed, went to see her and brought her home.

She is a pretty bay Friesian, Arabian cross with big eyes and a pretty face. She is gentle and sweet, and I know she will be a huge blessing here.  I wish Penny could see her here and know that she will be loved and cared for.

Thank you Jeff Erickson, Nora Foss,  and Teri Link for being a part of this blessing to Son Shine Farm!

An amazing Christian lady named Carrie Vandal found us on the internet and was looking for a Christian EAL facility to donate her sweet boy “Toby” to.  She emailed me and after some prayer it was decided that it was the right thing for us to get him.  We renamed him “Samson” because he is little, but thinks he is mighty, and he is hairy, lol.  God’s chosen Samson was strong and hairy!   The kids love him.

MOE

Moe is a 2 year old Belgian, standardbred cross gelding.  He came from Wilmar Weaver, an Amish gentleman that we know.  We got him last spring and the kids have gotten to work with him on the ground for sessions getting him used to obstacles and learning to trust as he was quite nervous of things when he first came.  He is now back at wilmar’s learning to drive and then will also go to some training for riding.  Draft horses are typically gentle giants, so we are excited to see how he turns out.

Joe

Joe is a Belgian, standardbred cross gelding that came from Kenny Frieberg, a dear man from Bagley, MN as a yearling.   Joe follows the kids around, pulls off their hats, gets in their personal space, and is curious about everything.  Some adjectives that have been used to describe him are funny, brave, trusting, and pushy.   He will go through a scary obstacle quickly, trusting that if we say it is OK, then it must not be a predator.  Joe has trust because his first master was a kind, gentle man that spoiled him.  He is currently with an Amish man, Wilmar Weaver to be trained to drive and learn some manners that were lacking.  He represented a person without good boundaries!  He will also go for riding training this year and we are so hopeful that in the future he will make a great addition to the herd that is used for riding for clients, not just the ground sessions.
